The 2021-2022 Season Magic schedule has landed! With the release we can look to see where the home stands are and those tough road trips sit.
THE OPENING STRETCH
This is the time of season where every sports fan is filled with hope and belief for the season. In the opening games all 30 teams are looking to find rhythm, fitness and form. An unfamiliarity with new personnel or coaching systems often throws out some surprise results.
The 2021-2022 season Magic schedule sees Orlando open on the road in San Antonio on October 20th. On the 22nd the Magic begin their home season fixtures by welcoming the New York Knicks and a returning Evan Fournier to town.
The opening weeks are tough with road games in New York (x2), Miami, Toronto, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Milwaukee (x2) and Philadelphia.
The first multi game home stand of the season comes from November 3rd to the 13th when Orlando take on Boston, San Antonio, Utah, Brooklyn and Washington.
Statistically a team’s opening 10 games of the season are an indicator as to making the post season. Between a developing team and this start, which includes 7 of the opening 10 games on the road it is definitely going to be a challenge to put a string of results together.
DECEMBER TO ALL-STAR
The meat of the season and by this point the league is starting to settle. Teams are firmly into their rhythm and a clearer picture of those contending begins to emerge.
The 2021-2022 season Magic schedule has Orlando thrown a horrible December. The month opens with a home game against Denver and Aaron Gordon before a road trip West. Houston, Golden State, Sacramento and both LA teams await. Tough matchups on a extended trip featuring extensive travel. These types of long trips are the times where a team shows their spirit and chemistry.
From that road trip is two home games with Atlanta and Miami before travelling to Brooklyn, Toronto and Atlanta.
The run over Christmas sees Orlando in Miami on the 26th and facing two home fixtures with Milwaukee on the 28th and 30th. Ouch!
January brings several short road trips. The month concludes with a 5 game home stand against both LA teams, Chicago, Detroit and Dallas.
As All-Star looms up Orlando again head West on a road trip as hard as they come in the modern NBA, to face Portland, Utah, Phoenix and Denver. A home game against Atlanta on February 16th sees Orlando to the All Star break.
POST ALL-STAR TO REGULAR SEASON CLOSE
As teams fight for seeding the competition intensifies.
The 2021-2022 season Magic schedule pitches Orlando a 3 game home stand against Houston and Indiana (x2) to restart the season. From the 11th March to 22nd Orlando have a 6 game home stand against Minnesota, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Detroit, Oklahoma and Golden State.
Four of the final five games are at home, with the regular season closing in the Amway against Miami on Sunday the 10th April.
If Orlando have surprised every NBA pundit and are in the hunt for a playoff position then the end of season schedule post All-Star is built for wins. The road challenges are against teams where wins are possible. The home schedule is heavily weighted in Orlando’s favour. As prohibitive as the season schedule starts the end is favourable.
That may not be what some fans want to hear. If the Magic were outside of any contention for the post-season then late wins may ultimately affect those Draft Lottery odds.
THE 2021-2022 SEASON MAGIC SCHEDULE – THE CHALLENGES
